Selly Oak is largely populated by students attending the University of Birmingham. There are lots of local amenities such a take-aways, supermarkets, hair dressers, pubs and bars.
There are great transport links to the city centre. Selly Oak Train Station is very near and there are frequent buses.
Cons:
As this area has a large student population there is a lot of noise and parking can be troublesome.
Selly Park
Pros:
Selly park is quieter but is still within walking distance to the University of Birmingham and local amenities.
Cons:
For those who want to be around other students, this area may be too quiet
Harborne
Pros:
Harborne is one of the nicest areas to live in Birmingham. There are lovely pubs and restaurants on Harborne High-street and there are also supermarkets nearby.
This area is closer to the University Train Station, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Medical School at the University of Birmingham.
Cons:
For those who want to be around other students, this area may be too quiet.
The supermarkets are not ideal for those who are on a strict budget.
Edgbaston
Pros:
Edgbaston is in between Selly Oak and the city centre. Properties located in Edgbaston best suits those who attend Aston University, Birmingham City University and other universities and colleges towards the city centre. Edgbaston is a lovely area with Cannon Hill Park and good transport links to the city centre.
Cons:
There is no train station in Edgbaston therefore bus is the best method of transport.
Balsall Heath
Pros:
Closer to the city centre therefore benefits those who attend Aston University, Birmingham City University and other universities and colleges towards the city centre.
Cons:
There is no train station in Balsall Heath therefore bus is the best method of transport.
